Ordered a couple of wall cabinets and after numerous delays, and partial shipments, I finally received the doors that had been delayed since August and it's December. The workmanship is very poor ... and I can certainly validate all the horrible reviews this company has and deserves ... will see if they make an effort to make it right, but hopefuly if you're reading this, you'll buy elsewhere

I went with Merillat cabinets since my parents had them in their house that was built around 1988. No big issues at over the years. I ordered half of my cabinets a year ago and finally getting to install them. For what they charge for them, I'm not to impressed. How the company puts them together is of a very poor quality. I'm surprised there isn't a grove in the front face to have the upper and lower panels sit in. Only the hot glue is used to secure it together and well the glue is all separating. Without proper support the bottom panel the cabinet will sag overtime. I shouldn't have to reenforce that joint just so it's held together.

I am very disappointed in these Merillat cabinets. I replaced 30 year old cabinets with new Merillat cabinets in our kitchen make-over. the new cabinets are made of cheap pressed board and came in not complete. 3 doors were missing, the hardware was put on but horribly done. No quality from start to finish. I am still waiting for the back of the island cabinets 6 months after ordering them. I do not recommend anyone buy these.

I have never been more disappointed in a purchase!! These cabinets are flimsy and cheap. Made of pressed fiber wood and laminate, after being represented as "solid". They remind me of mobile home cupboards. Cheap crap! I wasted $11,000!!! Boxed cabinets off the floor from a big box store are better quality! DON'T BUY MERRILAT!

Bought Merrillat Masterpiece for our kitchen in 2002. It is just my husband and I. The color is Frost Glaze. Finish is peeling and looks terrible. Called the company we bought them from. They told me to go Sherwin Williams and buy some paint. Very disappointed.

We ordered our kitchen cabinets and they delivered them on time. The color and style are good. That is the only thing good about them.
From opening each box to installing the cabinets everything went downhill!! Almost every cabinet had damage to the front from scratches, dents, holes punched in the side to drawers not being installed correctly! The boxes were not damaged, so the cabinets were damaged before packing and shipping!

Many of the shelf clips were missing and dried glue was everywhere. Damaged patches were buffed to try to hide the damage. Cabinets were not squared and difficult to align.
Cherry panels ended up being oak so had to wait for replacements.
No discount or reimbursement given. We ordered Merillat based on their reputation and quality, boy did we go wrong! Quality is terrible and we didn’t get the standard cabinets but upgraded to a higher quality! Higher quality is not available from this company, Don’t give them your business!

These white kitchen and bath cabinets were installed in my new spec home, so I did not choose them. Very disappointed with how they are holding up... I have 11 cabinet doors that need to be replaced as the thermafoil veneer is peeling off. None of these cabinets are above a heat source, and several are in my bathroom. We have been in our home for only one year, and trying to get Merillat to do something about this is like pulling teeth.

As a professional carpentry and remodeling contractor, do not purchase these cabinets. The paint quality is poor. We have had issues with out of square cabinet boxes, bowed frames, and inconsistent door quality. They will make it right and replace what is necessary but how does this help us when we have to make return trips after 3 weeks waiting for replacements? Just skip it and pay a little more for better cabinets.

A six week kitchen has taken so far approximately six months due in part to having return and replace cabinets that were defective. The company needs to address quality control.

I purchased Merillat cabinets for my new home kitchen. After less than a year they started peeling. My contractor has been talking to them about replacing them. They said they needed to come out to see. It has been almost a year with lots of reminders. I have yet to see or hear from a Merillat person. But in any case, all of my doors near the stove or coffeemaker, or toaster are pealing. Seriously, kitchen cabinets that can't stand up to heat should not be sold at all!!

We have ordered ~$30K Masterpiece by Merillat kitchen cabinets for our new construction house back in January( at jackson kitchen designs in North Andover, MA). What we have received this week is defected and broken product. Not a single cabinet is in brand new condition:

- some are completely broken
- some have glue inside
- most have a poor quality assembly. Although we ordered cabinets with MDF frames, a few plywood frame ones (a bathroom vanity and a few island fillers) have frame issues as well
- scratches on almost all doors from freight handling. Stress marks are completely okay, but scratches are not.
- poor finishing and painting
Merillat “stands by” quality of the product and offered to replace only 3 completely broken cabinets and re touch ( re touch!!!) the remaining. So i paid 30k for knock off re touched cabinets????

Purchased 2 cabinets to match existing cabinets in our home. One cabinet was missing hardware needed to install roll our drawers ordered with the cabinets. Replacement hardware was ordered two weeks ago and when Merrilat was contacted to get status of hardware shipment, they stated it was scheduled to ship in another two or three weeks. FOR HARDWARE. Unfortunately the mounting hardware for these drawers is pretty specific to the drawers/cabinets or I would order elsewhere. The fact that there was missing hardware to begin with says a lot about quality control at Merrilat but to have to wait 4-5 weeks for the missing hardware is unacceptable. I will never or from them again.

Within a month of installation of cabinets, I found a defect in one of my cabinets. I contacted them and they told me that there was no defect, but owner damage. The cabinet is near the sink. I had already tried to repair the spot with the kit that was included when I purchased the cabinets. We are retired seniors who had been saving for this kitchen rehab for quite sometime.

So my ratings are much lower because of this situation!

Do not buy Merillat cabninets. The finish on our kitchen cabinets started failing at first use. Finish literally rubbed and chipped off. The cabinets have a 25 year warranty that is useless because the company will arbitrarily claim normal wear and tear. This is not a quality cabinet even the cheapest cabinets don't fail like these did. Stay away from Merillat. It will be an expensive mistake.

We’ve only had our Masterpiece cabinets for 3 weeks but we love them. Beautiful stain color (chocolate on maple) and they seem nice and heavy. Love the soft close doors and drawers. I’ll write another review in a few years and I’m hoping it will be just as good.

I strongly encourage you to purchase your cabinets elsewhere. Merillat does not stand by its product and their customer service falls off the cliff once they receive your payment. There were MAJOR quality control issues with the cabinets that Merillat did not acknowledge the problems immediately and when they did they refused to recognize their own inspectors conclusion that there were significant product defaults. The inspector stated "these cabinets should have never left the industry."
Customer Service has been nonexistent.

I have had Merillat kitchen cabinets for 20 years. Finally one of them was over loaded and the rails bent. I ordered the rails on the Merillat website and in two weeks got two boxes, one with the base rails and the other empty with a hole in the box. I called Merillat Customer Service and they very kindly ordered me another pair of drawer side rails. In four weeks i called Customer Service and asked about the rails. I was advised that the rails were delivered 2 weeks ago and I could reorder the rails, (that included paying for them again.) I asked and received the UPS tracking number. UPS showed the package was damaged in transit and the Merillat had been advised. I called Customer Service, hoping I would not the same rep that wanted me to pay for it again, and got this wonderful lady in Ohio that checked the UPS number, ordered me new rails, wrote on the order to pack them tightly and I'd have them in two weeks. In two week I received the rails via UPS in a box that was falling apart - but my kitchen is back in one piece...after 8 weeks of waiting. So Caveat Emptor and I hope to heaven I never have to order parts from Merillat again. If I had a parts store nearby I would not have had to pay the freight (which was ludicrously inexpensive,) and been done two months ago. Be sure they pack the parts well, very well.

I purchased Merillat Mastetpiece Cabinets in a shaker style , white. The kitchen is three different shades of white. Bright white , creamy white and a greyish greenish white. I’m so disgusted and disappointed . I had the regional sales person come out to my home and he gave me a song and dance about the lighting in my kitchen. Useless .
Bad quality and bad customer service. If I can save someone from the heartache I feel over this I will feel better .

We installed a complete set of upper and lower kitchen cabinetry from Merrilat in 1990. The cabinets still look fantastic and there isn't a single problem that needs any correction. Best decision we made when we rejected the architect's call for custom milled cabinetry out of Chicago and went with Merrilat. Never had a need to use the warranty coverage so the rating on that issue is not tied to our experience.

Looking for cabinets that last more than 5 years? Look elsewhere! We had Merillat cabinets installed in our new construction home and a few years later the paint started to chip. We thought it was a small nuisance at first, but after about 5-6 years, all of the cabinets (including bathrooms and kitchen) looked awful! We had several contractors and painters come out to take a look and all of them expressed their disbelief in cabinets deteriorating so fast. They all stated that the paint was applied incorrectly and the wood did not have a base or stain to hold the paint long term. Reached out to Masco several times and they absolutely refuse to stand behind their product since I am past the 5 year warranty.

For those conscience consumers who care about the environment, Merillat is not your brand. If any damage happens to any part of the wood (no matter how small) Merillat will not sell replacement parts. Instead they tell you to dispose of the drawer, cabinet, etc and to purchase a new one. I had the side of a wood drawer frame separate from the from the front side of the frame. I was told to purchase an entirely new drawer. Even though they have a warehouse of these parts, they don't sell them. When I pointed out that was not a sustainable business model for the environment, throwing away an entirely good drawer with all good parts but one, I was told to make it into mulch....you can't mulch treated and painted wood. In any event, this company has alot of waste and little concern about environmental sustainability. The phone call with the representative was disheartening. I was told, "well if you care about the environment why did you buy wood, why didn't you buy plastic?" Ack! Like plastic is a good choice! And even if I did, they'd be telling me to throw out the plastic drawer and buy a new one! This company doesn't have a clue or a care about the globe. So the cabinets may look nice but they are part of the problem and not solution. With so may businesses that care about the planet and eco-friendly and environmentally sustainable approach to their business models to choose from, I'd suggest searching elsewhere than Merillat who is only concerned about sustaining their profits.

Super disappointed in Merrilat. Purchased expecting quality, durable cabinets. Nearly all of the cabinets were delivered damaged. Chipped, smashed corners, warped doors, separating door frames. Everything is so cheap. Two months into our new kitchen and it still makes me sick to my stomach that invested so much money for such poor quality. I’ll probably have to replace these again in five years. When I do, it definitely won’t be from Merrilat.

RetailerI suggest you avoid this company at all costs if you are in the market for new kitchen cabinets. We paid over $17K for cabinets - most of which were delivered on Dec 12. 6 boxes consisting of 2 cabinets plus multiple trim pieces were lost in transit. Our kitchen retailer could not get a a straight answer out of Merillat for weeks. I tried calling customer service. After numerous attempts and over 15 minutes on hold, I spoke to a woman who told me I had the wrong Merillat customer service group - but she would insure that someone called me back. Never happened. Before the holidays we were told by our retailer that Merillat could not locate the boxes and new cabinets were being made and would be delivered the first week of January. Today he found out it will now be the 12th of January. This company is terrible to deal with and provides little truthful information to it’s customers. We are tired of their incompetence! We are now without a kitchen for an entire additional month. Buyer beware...

We built our home in 1989 and the spec cabinets used were Merillat. Turns out that the doors and drawer fronts are pressed wood with a "grained" type laminate with "wood-grained" something...but not real wood. I'm guessing some sort of paper type covering. I don't know how to get the laminate off to paint or do anything to update the doors. The cabinets have held up really well over the years, with a family raising 3 children and 2 grandchildren. I would love to do something to the doors, as they don't look special at all, but I am not interested in new cabinets, nor refacing. It appears that at least the cabinet boxes are wood, but I don't feel that the end panels are. I suspect its the same "wood look paper" that is on the tops and bottoms of each door. I can't locate a picture online that shows these cabinets, and I do not know how I can upload one here. If anyone feels that they can help, please contact me. Sure would appreciate any help. BTW...papers from the build of the house do not indicate anything important regarding the cabinets, only that they were spec cabinets.

Our Merillat cabinets were purchased 30 years ago and I have to say I almost chose to refinish them rather than replace with new Merillat. The problem I am having after so many years are with the roll out shelving which I could replace. I put items which were to heavy and caused damage. Now I store light weight items on top roll out and heavier ones on the bottom which has helped. We have periodically wiped the cabinets down with lemon oil and cleaned areas which were used frequently. It will be interesting to see if the new cabinets I purchase from them are just as good of quality. I do notice in the new housing construction around our area builders are using the very same design as our old cabinets! We are choosing to upgrade to cherry cabinets so we have something different when it comes time to see our home, and frankly ready for a new look. I still am going to buy Merillat. Our kitchen designer highly recommends them and she has excellent reviews. Our old cabinets will be reused by friends to help organize their garage.

I have Merillat cabinets and was going to refinish them, friends and workmen told me oh you should keep those, they are very good quality. First I found out my toe kicks were just plywood with contact paper oak on top, so I bought nice oak veneer for better toe kicks (that is solid oak). I know the fronts are solid oak, but when I went to remove the varnish from the sides, the contact paper literally melted off the plywood and I didn't even have it on 30 minutes. At this point, I might buy new cabinets, but not Merillat. I am constantly replacing things, hinges that went bad, shelf clips, etc., I am NOT impressed Merillat.

After a brief chat with me the black lady at Livonia, MI store told me they only service people by appt. She sat on her ass there while someone else served me. 3 customers walked in and out none by appt. I was the only one who placed an order. Kitchen island and vanity was delivered to my house in 'to-be-assembled' condition with no clear instructions, no knobs etc.. I had to pay extra to carpenter for assembly. Side veneer panel turned out to be defective when carpenter opened. Co. said they can deliver replacement in 3 weeks!. Damn the carpenter is here and they need 3 weeks to deliver the veneer which probably is no more than $5-$10 cost to them. When they delivery came they wouldn't leave it until I gave them the old piece. Take the old out and fix the new I told them. We're just delivering, they said. CHEAP, OVERPRICED. The finish on vanity is so bad. I feel ashamed of it. My old one broke in 13 years

We purchased our Masterpiece cherry cabinetry from our local home town building store. After the installation of cabinets in our small kitchen, we realized we could have had custom cabinets for the same price as we paid for these. Initially, we loved our cabinets. Three years after installation the dark glaze in the recessed areas started to flake off. This is when the nightmare begins...we are going on our fourth year trying to get the company to send cabinets that aren't sub par. That is when they send the right size cabinet. We've had at least 8 different shipments delivered with terrible workmanship. Crazy stuff. The finish is garbage. Edges aren't sanded properly, glaze sent flaking off and cabinets aren't the quality they should be. We are continuing to fight Merillat to send decent cabinets. Our issues are still not resolved. I just really want to have cabinets that the workmanship isn't terrible. DO NOT BUY MERILL OR KITCHEN MAID (as Kitchen Maid is the same company, Masco) CABINETS.

I have Merillat through my whole house; kitchen, three (3) and a half baths. My husband built our home in 1998 and we still have the original cabinets. I just can't see buying new when these still look and function great. The only issue I have is that I wanted to order some more shelf units for the master bath and I can't get the same finish. We have European cherry throughout the main floor and washed oak on the second story and lower level. I love these cabinets. I feel bad for the people that have had trouble. It doesn't make sense that the quality differs so much. Merillat needs to get their quality control together so people can enjoy their homes, the way we enjoy ours.

we just had these cabinets put in by procare our remodeler & have to wait 2 more weeks to get part of one that was damaged & another that has the back of the wall part of cabinet cracked as well. we have been trying since nov. to get our kithchen together & cannot even get decent cabinets put in 5,600.00 they are not worth this. not that many cabinets what io had in this home was better before the fire. i am very dissapointed with the quality of this cabinetry. which i am debating on wheather to have them sent back or the contractor can take the loss. we did not want cheap stuff as a replacement. a child could have built better than this. you should be ashamed to sell products like this.

Trash. Pure trash. I own a "Masterpiece" kitchen from 2005 and it is quite nice. So I ordered another for a new house. The quality is trash. Metal fasteners on the inside of the boxes prevent the proper placement of shelves. Draw boxes are not square and so don't open and close properly. But that is not the worst. I have waited more than 2 months for a replacement cabinet just to get another cabinet with the exact same defect --- it doesn't close right and seems to be "kittywhompass."

Do not buy this garbage. This is Masco's "Top of the Line" and they I received the cabinets with a 33% defect rate, and there is NO customer service.

We've owned our home for 1.5 years with previously installed Merillat cabinets. They are falling apart. The construction is subpar with particle board framework (the fronts look nice where the wood has held up) stapled together. These cabinets and drawers are not designed for regular use. If you have no reason to open and close them they will look beautiful. If you plan to use them, plan to replace them sooner than later. Of course, they come with original owner warranty only.

We had our Cabinets for 10 years. Excellent product for the money! They held up great! We did not choose the plywood but a hard compressed type of particle board. For the fronts, end panels and doors we had a mix of wood. Maple on the walls; Cherry on the Island. They were raised panel with miter corners in a stain with glaze. The full extension glides, hinges, drawers, etc. held up and worked great in a highly used kitchen! My only comment is that if you cook a lot you might want to choose a real wood end on the sides of your uppers next to the stove. They did start to peel during year 10. Note: I cook A LOT! Still, I don't think this was so much Merillat's fault but my Kitchen Designers. The second recommendation I have is to go ahead and get real plywood for at least your kitchen sink cabinet. Unfortunately, we did had a leak there and the cabinet did not hold up well in that location and we had to rebuild the bottom. I can't rate the Warranty because I really don't know if it is good or not. The site, however, makes me enter a number. I just randomly chose a 9. We didn't have any trouble on the manufacturer's end, so I really don't have experience there. Too bad I don't see where I could upload our past kitchen. It was beautiful. We have since had a fire and rebuilding,

Just bought new Merrilat cabinets (midrange)...and they are worse than any cabinet made in China. Cracked doors, mismatched colors, poor fit...in a word...horrible. I chose an American company to support our workers but these cabinets are very poorly made. No two doors are the same color, globs of glue holding them together, and they scratch very easily. A great disappointment and loss of money.

In 2014 we purchased a home built in 2007 with Merillat cabinets. What a mess the cabinets are in. The sides of the island and end cabinets are covered in some kind of wallpaper-like substance. NOT WOOD. The island drawer scraped when opening and closing until it finally just stuck and wouldn't open at all! My husband fixed it temporarily with a shim. The cherry finish looks okay from a distance, but up close it is visible that the color/finish has faded! Obviously, there is a very thin coat of stain. These cabinets are a nightmare and should all be replaced. I would NEVER buy another house with Merillat cabinets.

We have moved two times in the past 10 years & both homes have Merillat cabinets. Our most recent kitchen has Merillats Classic deluxe grade cabinets. They have the soft close doors & drawers which I love. We went with the Cherry upgrade this time around & the Armaretto finish looks amazing. Very rich with nice wood grain as well. They are not the best cabinets on the market but they fall right in the range we wanted to spend & have the options & quality we want as well.

We chose Merillat Basics, Homestead Birch for our new home and upgraded the drawers to dovetail and easy close. The fronts on these cabinets look good and are sturdy. That's where the good ends. The finish was so thin that it rubbed off in many places during installation. The sides of these cabinets are 3/8" pressboard with a photographic finish applied. The corners have flimsy supports that break away easily since they are just hot glued in place. The flimsy sides have a dado cut in them to receive the 1/4" back. As you can imagine, these break out easily too.
We would not have ordered these if we had seen the construction before hand. The cabinets in the showroom all have countertops on them so the construction is mostly hidden. When buying a home over 1/4 of a million dollars (not counting the land), you expect a certain level of quality. These cabinets are not it. I've gotten better from China!

I purchased our Merillat cabinets in 2001. They looked good for the first 2 years. After year 3 the finish was pealing near the floor of one of the cabinets. I called Merillat and they sent a "repair" kit consisting of a paint stick an a tiny vial of paint. The problem is the paint is pealing.
By year 7 the hinges on 3 of the cabinets need to be replaced. I found replacement hinges but not from Merillat. At year 12 all of the cabinets are showing wear around the handles and knobs. The finish of some of the knobs has worn off. Lastly at year 15 (today), the front of one of pull out draws fell off. The cabinet front is mounted to the drawer by a particle board plate. This plate tore from the frame just by opening the drawer.
My advise is do not buy these cabinets if you expect long life from a cabinet.

I am a professional remodeler and home builder. I have built nearly 400 homes and completed 200 remodels with various lines of cabinets but my go to cabinet has always been Merillat Classic with deluxe construction. They offer a reasonable range of door style and colors given the price. The construction using the deluxe construction is as good as any box cabinet on the market. Merillat does offer a lower end of cabinets called the "Essential" series which are to be avoided. Their upper end called "Masterpiece" is very good high end semi-custom cabinet line but you can find better value elsewhere. I would highly recommend that anyone consider using the Merrilat Classic Series cabinets with deluxe construction option.

It is tough to give star ratings because I have mixed reviews for a couple of styles/finishes. The painted cabinets (mixed Masterpiece and Classic) I purchased have a nice finish (canvas color), but the stained Honey Maple Masterpiece cabinets are, frankly, unattractive. They have a rustic appearance and a few dark streaks that look like blemishes, but are wood variations that should have been avoided on Masterpiece quality cabinets. The quality of construction is good, but not great. A few drawer fronts seem loose, but won't tighten up with the screws, so I guess I will be adding/replacing screws. I had the Merrillat rep at my house to address a drawer box that was milled improperly, but he was hours late and my wife could only show him the drawer. He couldn't find the problem ??? and did some BS roller adjustment and left. The next day I grabbed a chisel, a shim, and some wood glue and fixed it, but this is ridiculous service for new cabinets. Also, the design program at the dealer seems complicated for old school sales people. 2 Masterpiece cabinets arrived 4 inches short because the toekick was deleted on the program. Unfortunately, this was on upper stacked cabinets that shouldn't have a toekick, but somehow the overall height was never recalculated properly. We agreed to add decorative panels to the top to allow for crown moulding, but this means more work for me. The remainder of my project involves stained cabinets and a custom closet - I think I will look at something other than Merrillat.

We bought a house that has Merillat Cabinets in it. The kitchen is newer- so not like this is a old kitchen. All I can say is the cabinets are Cheaply made- the door beneath the sink doesn't close all the way- there was a drawer where the front already was pulled off and shows signs of repairs. The cabinets themselves lack in over-all function. Small pullout drawers, deep cabinets- where a normal sized woman has difficulty reaching. In my old house we re-did the kitchen using Home Depot and the cabinets from there were a much higher quality then these. Can't wait till I have enough money to pull these cabinets out.

What you see in the samples is NOT what you get. The cabinets were received have very thin doors, colors don't match on all and the wood markings on the doors are really bad. Have reorderd a couple doors 3 times due to the color not being the same and all have been different colors. You would think if you always order "Birch - Kaffe" the would all be the same color. Can't believe a company doesn't stand behind their product and quality of their work. You never buy again or recommend them to anyone.

I recently had a base cabinet and wall cabinet installed in a bathroom. My initial thoughts about the quality of the construction was that they were really no better then the cabinets you can purchase at Home Depot or Lowes. Solid wood front panels with lesser quality wood and veneer for the rest. The drawers are nice, but one of the drawer faces was badly aligned and one of the drawer locking mechanisms was defective. None of the drawer faces actually sit flush on the cabinet front when closed. The veneer finish is the worst I have ever seen. Prior to painting the walls I applied masking tape to the sides with veneer. When I removed the tape, numerous areas of the veneer pulled away from the panels. The veneer is so thin I can't even feel a ridge where the unfinshed "wood" was exposed. The contractor that insatlled them ensured me that they never saw this type of problem before. Not sure I beleive that one. The solution to the problem was to install soild wood panels on the exposed veneer sides. I was charged over $500 for the 24 inch wall cabinet so God knows what I paid for the base cabinet. Either way these cabinets are not worth the money.

We build our house 16 years ago and put in Merillat cupboards . We installed white and I cannot complain about the finish it has maintained the white surface and we have had two hinges that needed replacement. We received the new hinges totally free of charge no questions asked. I feel the warranty is great!!! we were told it was a life time for the cupboards. I would definitely recommend them and I am totally pleased with the construction and quality. We are presently renovating our kitchen counter tops and I would not even consider replacing my cupboards they still look great!!

The Classic cabinets are poorly made and horribly designed. What is displayed in the showroom is not what you will receive. The reps are extremely unhelpful when the bad cabinets arrive. This company should be ashamed of itself. Do not buy them under any circumstances. You will get better quality for half the price at the big box store like Home Depot or Lowe's or even Ikea. A huge waste of money. Perhaps they were a reputable brand once, but no longer.

Ive had Merillat dark oak cabinets in my kitchen for 27 years now. The only real change is the wood darkend over the years which I guess is a natural characteristic with all woods. After 27 years I would love to change my cabinets to something more contemporary like Maple. But I can't get the heart to take out these cabinets & throw them.
