THIS COMPANY IS OUT OF BUSINESS. DO NOT BUY CABINETS FROM ANY DEALER CLAIMING TO SELL CARDELL. THEY FILED BANKRUPTCY IN 2013.

In the 1970’s, Bill Tidwell, a Texas entrepreneur, owned a custom cabinet company in the Dallas-Ft. Worth area called B.J. Tidwell Industries. In 1976, an employee of one of B.J. Tidwell's customers, by the name of Carlos De Llano, decided to start up his own cabinet company called Cardell in San Antonio.

Mr. Tidwell acquired Cardell Cabinetry in May 1977. He thought the concept of Cardell was a good one. He also liked the name which he thought was catchy and something that could be used to create a brand name around. He also knew the job market in San Antonio was good.

Mr. Tidwell had a simple but clear vision for Cardell, "To create exceptional cabinetry through innovation, persistence, and a vision for the future".

The original manufacturing facility was located in a 2,000 square foot lean-to. Customers could choose between four door styles and four stains.

Over the next decade the company expanded from Texas into the national market. Cardell was able to do this by sticking to Mr. Tidwell’s vision, the hard work of dedicated employees, and by building strong and lasting relationships with its distributors.

Cardell in 1992

In 1991, Cardell released a new line called The 2001 Series (in 2001, The 2001 Series was renamed The 360 Series). The 2001 Series was a huge success by being the first in the industry to combine three popular features as part of its standard construction: concealed adjustable hinges, ¾" thick wood-grain laminated adjustable shelves and a birch laminated interior.

In 2000, Cardell introduced another line called The Odyssey Series. The Odyssey Series was designed to offer semi-custom cabinetry and let Cardell work with per-drawing requests.

Cardell has continued to enhance both lines over the years. The Odyssey Series offers the best in environmental friendliness and luxury by offering all plywood cabinet box construction and a soft-close drawer guide system as part of its standard construction features. The 360 Series continues to innovate by offering dove-tail drawer boxes and a concealed under-mounted drawer guide system as part of its standard construction features.

Between the two cabinet lines, different door styles and colors options available, Cardell offers thousands of combinations to choose from. That is a huge difference between the early days of four styles and four colors; but the power of choice to the consumer is one of the company’s focuses.

Cardell in 2004

In addition to choices between styles and colors, there are many modifications and per-drawing cabinet construction available to personalize and create something truly unique.

Cardell has been ranked one of the largest manufacturing businesses in San Antonio for the last decade. There is 900,000+ square feet of work space between its San Antonio manufacturing facilities and a secondary manufacturing facility located in El Campo, Texas.

Bill Tidwell still owns Cardell Cabinetry and over the past 30 years has grown the company into one of the largest privately owned cabinet manufacturers in the country. Mr. Tidwell and other Tidwell family members remain extremely active in management, day-to-day operations and leading the company towards an exciting future.

Great selection, great products

CARDELL CABINETRY IS OUT OF BUSINESS. DO NOT ORDER CABINETS FROM ANY DEALER SELLING THIS BRAND OF CABINET.

Cardell Cabinetry offers a fantastic selection of door styles available in a most species of wood. The options they offer are close to what custom makes offer. They have 2 levels of construction - 360 and Odyssey. The Odyssey Collection offers all of the most popular features standard. These include all plywood construction, dovetailed wood drawer boxes and Blume soft close glides. The company does an awesome job on their finishing and if you are considering a kitchen remodel, Cardell is a great choice for cabinets. These quality of their cabinets is exceptional and you will easily be able to design a kitchen with features that you might not find on other brands. One thing to note is that their base cabinets come with a full depth shelf which you will not find from most other makers.

poor quality

From the time, 10 years, we had our kitchen remolded there were problems. It started with cracked cabinet doors. I called Cardel they told me to get in touch with Thomas Kitchens, Hazleton, Pa.I called Joe Thomas and he told me to get a lawyer. Again, I called Cardell and was told they could not do anything. Finally, after two years, yes, two years, I brought two cabinet doors in placed them in front of Joe Thomas, asked him if he saw anything wrong with the doors, he said yes. I then said to him, why have you been giving a problem for two years, he said he did not... He fixed the doors and put a god awful stain on them. The sides of the cabinets are like door panels, I did I one fixed. Hurray for that!! Then there was and still is of the hinges breaking, another nightmare.. I have been calling for a very very long time and no one has called me back...The stain on some of the cabinet doors and drawers is coming. These cabinets alone cost me then over $9,000.00 and it is not a large kitchen. Tell me, where does my problem end!!! The next step is the Better Business Bureau. All of this is in the warranty. Please help as I cannot afford to put any more money in this kitchen. I am working parttime to help pay health insurance. I even paid extra for dove tail drawers and knobs, which I have seen as regular stock and in WalMart. Please do not tell me to get in touch with Thomas Kitchens. The work and the way I and others were treated was not proper. Our phone number is 570-929-1406. Thank you for your time..

OUT OF BUSINESS - Poor service, poor quality

As a Cardell dealer I happily sold their cabinets for several years. Over the past few months of 2013 delivery delays and poor quality products were the norm on every order. The last order I placed was a total disaster. My customer received the order in 8 weeks (4 weeks late). It consisted of poorly constructed cabinets with paint that was off by several shades on most of the cabinets. When I say several shades, I mean that each cabinet had several shades of paint on it. Andy Tidwell requested that I refund my customer and to have them donate the cabinets to a local charity. He said they would give me credit on future orders. This was one week before they closed their doors. Had my customer agreed to this, it would have been a total loss for my company because I had already paid for them and they would never be able to refund my money or offer the credit.

Anyway, Andy agreed to replace the doors and drawers on the kitchen, but they never came through with this promise. I received an email from the customer service representative stating that they were only contacting dealers who owe them money and all other operations had been halted.

Cardell cabinet disaster.

My contractor ordered the 360 line of cabinets 24 pieces in all of the 24 pieces there were only two that were built correctly without issues. The issues were as follows, missing stain on fronts, half the drawer fronts and door fronts had a rough texture on the stain, the words black glaze had been written under the stain and when light shined on the door the words reflected through the stain, none of the drawers lined up with each other in a drawer box, box construction was a mix of MDF plywood with mis colored scrap wood, staples that held the cabinet together were pulling out, glue was present on the inside and very visible, most doors were scratched and nicked. Remember this is how the cabinets were delivered to my house from the factory. I opened a warranty case and have followed the process in 3 weeks I have no movement from Cardell to replace the damaged cabinets and have been told to hire someone to fix the cabinets on my own that a installer should be able to fix my cabinets. I spent over 15,000 on the cabinets as I thought I was getting a quality product however the cabinets at Home Depot are far nicer in quality than the Cardell 360 line. Stay away from this company they do not stand behind there product. I have 40 plus pictures and many e-mails of the quality and lack of support I have received. I am out my money with no product that is presentable and will be seeking legal help to resolve this. Please feel free to contact me about this company and my experience.

Long Wait

Can't comment on the quality of Cardell cabinets, I'm still waiting for them. It's been 6 weeks now, e-mailed Erica, a rep looking for a reason they are taking so long, she just replied, " i'll forward it to management" and no other explanation. We were promised delivery in 4-6 weeks, then given a prelim delivery date of 5 weeks, which was then changed at the last minute and now it will be 7 weeks or longer. the customer service with Cardell needs some improvement. I will re comment when the cabinets finally show up, if....

Poor Quality and customer service

We have had our cabinets for around 4 months. We were encouraged to use Cardell by our home builder and I had not been impressed by the samples I was given. We choose to upgrade to Cardell’s most expensive and high-end cabinets hoping that they would be nice.
We found problems with the cabinets on our house walk through in October of 2011. Since then we have been in contact with the company and the sales man to try and get our cabinets fixed/replaced. Below are the problems we have had with the cabinets.

The paint does not cover the cabinet, we can see the wood color behind the black paint on every cabinet door and drawer, finish is not sprayed evenly on cabinets, missing middle section between cabinet doors, full overlay is not full overlay some are and others are not, our cabinet doors and drawers are inconsistent.
We have emailed pictures of the cabinets to show how bad they are. The sales rep came to our home and agreed that they were bad and needed to be replaced and that he would put in an order to get new cabinets. This was over a month ago and we have not heard from him since and Cardell had never heard from him with this request.

I wish I would have gone with my instinct and choose a different cabinet company. We are now stuck with these cabinets and paid a considerable amount for them.

Poor Quality and Service

We upgraded to the highest end and quality cabinets that Cardell offers. The product and quality is very low in my opinion and for what we paid extremely disappointing. I would describe the work overall as sloppy.

The paint was sprayed thin in places we can see the wood color through the paint. Full overlay was not full overlay in some places and was in others. Sloppy application of the finish, blotches of it are visible in places. Measurements on sides by the wall are all different.

The Cardell sales man would not contact us after we called letting him know the issues. He was in contact with us regularly when he was selling us the cabinets. We had to call corporate and then he contacted us. We still have yet to have any one address and fix the problems almost two months later.

Premium price for substandard quality

I have just installed some of the Odyssey collection and was very dissapointed in the quality of workmanship that went into building these cabinets. It was a totally different manufactured cabinet than what was on display in the showroom where I ordered them, the materials were the same, but, the product I received was no where close to the quality I expected from the what I had looked at. Doors out of square and warped, door rails and stiles up to 1/4" difference in widths, doors and drawer fronts not uniform in size, cabinets built out of square, faceframes installed up to 1/8" lower than cabinet sides, trim was poor quality and warped badly. These were just some of the issues, there were really too many to list here.
In the 30 years I've been installing cabinets, this was the worst experience that I've ever had
