Unfamiliar with cabinetry in a desert environment, we were ill prepared for what lie in wait for us down the road. We selected Mastercraft Cascade Square White Laminate kitchen cabinets. 17 years later, we regret this selection. The heat in our home has never exceeded 82° and yet the laminate is separating from the wood, the clear bumpers are yellowed and have permanently marred where the doors rest against the base cabinet (we do not fry with oil in our kitchen), the rear drawer guide mounts are made of plastic and are disintegrating and we have not yet found replacement parts. Don’t make the mistake we did. Inspect the cabinet quality prior to purchase, because this was a huge amount of money to waste! ]]> Sun, 10 Oct 2021 23:40:19 +0000 <![CDATA[Mastercraft: difficult to deal with this company]]> https://kitchencabinetsreviews.com/reviews/discussions/review.html?id=767 https://kitchencabinetsreviews.com/reviews/discussions/review.html?id=767 During installation 12 doors needed to be replaced for manufacturing flaws found by the installing dealer which, we were told, were not up to the dealer’s quality standards. Less than two years after installation two cabinet door faces cracked in obvious visible locations. Our selling dealer had gone out of business so we contacted Mastercraft. Mastercraft initially denied coverage (without visual inspection) claiming water damage is not covered. One cabinet door face was on a sink base; the other on a drawer nowhere near water. Neither problems were actually water affected. After a complaint to BBB, Mastercraft capitulated and the door faces were replaced. Recently, we wanted to add roll-out trays in 4 cabinets and tried to contact the company to see if we could purchase the kits directly or through an authorized dealer. Contacting customer service was impossible. Calls were not answered and messages never returned. After weeks of attempts, the only way we could reach an actual person was to use the dealer line. The agent was sympathetic to our request but said the company would not sell to us directly. She offered four dealers in distant states (there were no dealers in the entire state of Florida) Three dealers said they were no longer Mastercraft dealers and the fourth would not even quote the cost or offer to sell roll-out kits because they were too expensive. They suggested we check “Rev-a-Shelf” instead. Don’t waste any time on this manufacturer. Their customer service is abysmal and you’ll likely wind up frustrated. Their policy seems to be “avoid customer support at all cost” Very sad. ]]> Wed, 18 Dec 2019 15:31:25 +0000 <![CDATA[Mastercraft: Shrinking Cabinets!]]> https://kitchencabinetsreviews.com/reviews/discussions/review.html?id=645 https://kitchencabinetsreviews.com/reviews/discussions/review.html?id=645 We had a complete kitchen redo using cabinets from Innermost, owned by Elkay. They made the over/beside the refrigerator cabinet the wrong size, no problem, it was fixed. Twice the cabinet beside the microwave was received damaged, no problem, it was replaced. Loved, loved my cabinets. Beautiful cabinets, exactly what I wanted. The first time I cooked a large meal (Thanksgiving) the veneer on the cabinets shrank. Since it's red it's pretty noticeable. Elkay decided that since we didn't put in a heat shield (I was supposed to know about that?) it's not covered under the warranty. Don't use this company, they don't stand by their products and don't honor their warranties!! ]]> Thu, 07 Jun 2018 23:49:34 +0000 <![CDATA[Mastercraft: Stay away]]> https://kitchencabinetsreviews.com/reviews/discussions/review.html?id=443 https://kitchencabinetsreviews.com/reviews/discussions/review.html?id=443 I bough a complete kichen a knotty pine.Kitchen cabinet outlet in southington conn said there 4-6 week delivery. After seven weeks I call kco and was told cabinets on back order. On September 3rd, we took delivery. All but 7 of the 25 cabinets were wrong. Many had masonite backs and particle board sides and shelving. One of the cabinets was broken, some of the drawer fronts were wrong, the hardware wrong on others - we had ordered all soft close drawers and some had the cheaper hardware. We immediately called our distributor who arranged for a representative from Mastercraft to come to our house on Sept. 5. The representative, while polite, said she could not promise us anything when we said all we ask is that we get what we paid for. Our distributor reassured us that the corrections would be made. I will point out here, that we do not have a problem with the distributor - they tried their best and advocated time and time again for us. We returned the cabinets and made due with a bare kitchen - not even a kitchen sink. On October 5th, (after the vacation time we took to work on the kitchen had passed), the cabinets were once again delivered. Again there were problems - one door cracked, still some particle board sides and masonite backings, wrong drawer fronts, problem with finishes. I believe at this point 9 of the cabinets and some of the trim were wrong. We reluctantly accepted delivery at this time as we could no longer deal without a functional sink and there was no guarantee that they would get it right a third time. They did promise to replace the wrong and broken drawers, mismatched trim, and wrong hardware. We repaired and reinforced the cabinets with particle board and masonite. We took final delivery of the drawers, hardware and trim a couple of days before Christmas. After much consideration - I hate confrontation - we wrote a letter to the head of the cabinet division of Mastercraft and the head of Elkay documenting our experience. We sent the letter "return receipt requested", so we know they got the letters. We got a phone call saying they would look into it. Weeks passed - no response. I found a phone number for corporate and called. I talked to someone and e-mailed a copy of the letter that was initially sent. They promised to connect me to the right person. I did receive a phone call back with a half-hearted apology and a promise of a letter. On April 17th I received a letter apologizing and promising a check for $500 for our inconvenience and to offset additional labor costs. So now it's June 1, 2015 - no check, no other contact. I send another e-mail to Elkay's representative and cc'd our distributor. We heard back immediately from the distributor who promised to look into it, but never heard from Elkay's representative. On June 24,2015, almost a year after placing our order, a check came in the mail for $500 - nothing else, just the check, no other communication or explanation from Elkay. Mistakes are made by everyone, I have no problem with that - if they admitted to and corrected their mistakes in a timely manner, I would not be writing this review. I am not in the habit of writing negative reviews on line - actually, this is my first. We would not recommend Mastercraft/Elkay to anyone. Their idea of customer service, quality control, and quality craftsmanship does not come close to what they promise. I cannot say strongly enough that I would not recommend this company! ]]> Wed, 24 Jun 2015 07:33:16 +0000 <![CDATA[Mastercraft: Happy with Cabinets]]> https://kitchencabinetsreviews.com/reviews/discussions/review.html?id=287 https://kitchencabinetsreviews.com/reviews/discussions/review.html?id=287 I had to gut my kitchen due to water damage. I had no idea what I wanted for cabinets or where to buy them. I went to Home Depot and the process was so confusing and they sent me in so many different directions I decided to get my own contractor. I found this web site and also found a discount cabinet store locally. I went to the store and saw very nice quality cabinets that were reasonably priced. Since my house is not valued high I did not want to put in a $50,000 kitchen. I am still spending $30,000 for the kitchen and bath room off the hall. This includes all high end appliances. I ordered Mastercraft Natural cherry cabinets. I knew when I ordered cherry that there could be defects and because these are not high end the finish could have issues. I was so worried about this. The cabinets that I saw were manufactured by Omega. I could not justify the extra cost so I went with Mastercraft. I have to say when the cabinets arrived they were breathtakingly beautiful. However, I did call the salesman because I was not happy with 2 cabinet doors that had too many pits. He said no problem I will order them today and they should be available in 3 weeks. No questions asked. I was so relieved. Also my contractor that installed the cabinets told me these cabinets will out live me and my husband. We are not yet senior citizens but I would think a very long tome. ]]> Sun, 21 Dec 2014 12:44:14 +0000 <![CDATA[Mastercraft: Terrible customer service and quality. ]]> https://kitchencabinetsreviews.com/reviews/discussions/review.html?id=186 https://kitchencabinetsreviews.com/reviews/discussions/review.html?id=186 The inside of the cabinets are bubbling. I bought 2 30" base cabinets, 1 12" base cabinet, 1 Hutch, and 2 24" medicine cabinets. One of the base cabinets came with a defective door, the faces of the drawers on the hutch were loose and mis-aligned so you could see right into the hutch, and the 2 medicine cabinets were different sizes. One was 1/2 inch shorter, 1/2 narrower, and only allowed the mirror to be mounted from one side. I went back to home depot to exchange the smaller one. They called Mastercraft and were informed that the medicine cabinets are build with 1/2 inch tolerance and that if we reordered another cabinet they could not say what the actual dimensions would be. Needless to say I was shocked to hear that 1/2 tolerance was acceptable to them. It is not acceptable to me and I'm sure it wouldn't be to you. This is one of several companies owned by Elkay that makes cabinets. They offer a modest selection of door styles and finishes but offer some construction upgrades not found on all cabinets. One is the iframe support at the top of the cabinet. Most manufacturers use corner supports, but the iframe is more sturdy when you are handling the cabinets. Once the cabinet is installed, if installed properly, the iframe offers no additional benefits. They also offer a couple of doors in Ash. If you are looking for a quality cabinet, Mastercraft is a good choice. ]]> Fri, 26 Mar 2010 21:04:05 +0000
